One of the things I have missed most about the end of this school year is watching our students face the reality of the end of a school year. At the end of each year, kids are ready to go. They are ready to get gone. It is time for a break. One trait that makes our campus unique is the appreciation our students show each other and to our faculty as they move into the summer. Our kids take the time to sincerely thank our teachers for their work throughout the year. As someone who had taught and coached on three previous campuses, this exchange of gratitude is unique to Westlake High School. On most campuses, you are ready for it to end. At WHS, you want it to end until the last week or so due to the warm and pleasant conversations you have with the students. While we are happy for summer, there is always a deflation as you realize what great kids you had the ability to work with and impact for a school year or longer. Our kids are not afraid to express gratitude, and that is so appreciated by our staff.
