Westlake High School

Rolling into May...

Every May is busy at Westlake High School. This year has created many obstacles, but we will be completed with this academic year in 4 weeks.

One of the newest challenges is our students taking over 4,000 Advanced Placement Tests from home from May 11th-22nd. After working with the College Board for many years, this will be a most unique testing cycle for all students in Westlake and beyond. We wish our students good luck as they progress through this new testing opportunity.

Our Seniors are busy as well, but yes, remotely. Seniors will sign a virtual banner tomorrow on Virtual Signing Day, sharing their post-high school plans; we will display this on our home page. Seniors will soon complete their Virtual Elementary Send-off which will also be shared on our home page as well as their corresponding elementary campus pages. Each Friday night we are honoring the Class of 2020 as we turn on the Chaparral Stadium lights at 8:20pm for 20 minutes (20:20 military time). While this is meant to be a drive-by experience, we know our students will keep each other as safe as possible by practicing proper social distancing while wearing a recommended face mask.  Seniors will also be honored during a Virtual Senior Awards Ceremony. A Virtual Graduation Ceremony will take place on May 28th while we look forward to an in-person ceremony at the Erwin Center on August 7th. Our parents will be sending updates soon for Project Graduation and Baccalaureate.

As the month of May advances, student groups, athletic teams and clubs are also having virtual end of the year celebrations. Look for a communication soon regarding our campus pick-up procedures for the last week of May.

We hope you are taking care of yourself and your family. Enjoy your weekend and reach out if you need us!
