Eanes ISD will host two Open House events to give students, parents and the business community a first look at its new innovative Westlake Business Incubator (WBI) classroom.
Aug. 18th, 6-7 pm, Student and Parent Open House
Aug. 25th, 6:30-7:30, Business Coaches (Teachers) / Mentors Open House
Those attending both events should park in the tennis complex lot across the street and enter through the Ninth Grade Center at Westlake High School.
"What makes this program so compelling is the chance for students to learn the fundamentals of business while creating their own startup company. It is a classic case of learning by doing that will engage these students from a fresh new perspective," said Dr. Tom Leonard, Superintendent of Schools.
"I am excited to begin learning about the entrepreneurial process from creating a business plan and building a team to using creative problem solving from the many diverse mentors teaching this industry leading class. The facility we will be working in is state-of-the-art and was funded by our community. I can't wait to be a part of the inaugural class," said Westlake High School junior Nathan Paull.
The Westlake High School Business Incubator Program provides students with authentic, entrepreneurial experiences developing a business concept, testing and adapting it for the marketplace and improving through further iterations. Real entrepreneurs and business experts serve as volunteer coaches and mentors, guiding student teams through the process. The two semester course, based on the Incubatoredu.com curriculum, includes foundational business topics such as marketing and finance and prepares students to pitch their ideas in teams to venture capitalists with the chance to get funding and start their own business.
