Board of Trustees Highlights
An Update from the Eanes ISD Board of Trustees
Superintendent's Report

It's hard to believe 2018 is less than two weeks away! Some of you may already be on the road to see family, friends or maybe to do some last-minute shopping. I hope everyone has a wonderful holiday and restful winter break. If you missed my holiday message earlier this week I have linked to it here.

In December, the Board heard reports on facilities, state assessments and more. We also had the pleasure of dedicating the Westlake HS Business Incubator room in memoriam to our dear friend and Trustee, Beau Ross. His mark will forever be entrenched in our schools and we thank his family for sharing him with us.

See a synopsis of the December meetings below. The full Board agenda packets are online.
Board Hears Facility & Enrollment Committee Update

The Board was presented a final report from the Facility & Enrollment Committee at the December 19 meeting. The group has been meeting for several months, following a Board initiative to evaluate the current state (Enrollment/Facilities/Budget) comparing it to what we know about the projected future of the District in these areas.

The committee identified 8 Subject Areas for enhanced review:
* Strategies
* Demographics
* Clearly define desired campus capacities
* Portables
* Child Development Center (CDC)
* Campus Attendance Zone Factors
* Scheduling at secondary campuses
* Land acquisition

Further updates will be forthcoming in the coming months.
TAPR Gives District High Marks

The 2016-17 Texas Academic Performance Report (TAPR) was presented at the December 5 meeting. The TAPR combines details of district and campus academic performance including post-secondary readiness with financial reports and information about staff, programs, and demographics.

Spanish Immersion Pilot Review

The Board heard a status report on the Spanish Immersion pilot, Futuro, at Bridge Point Elementary and Cedar Creek Elementary. Principals Heather Meek and Jessica Brown presented a general overview of successes, challenges and considerations thus far in the pilot. The Board will continue evaluative discussions leading to the spring enrollment process for year two of the pilot. With the timeline for 2018-19 registration to begin by early March, the administration and Board should determine any modifications to the current pilot, as well as the feasibility of possibly expanding the pilot to another school, no later than the Feb. 27, 2018, Board of Trustees meeting.

WHS Business Incubator Room Dedicated to Beau Ross

Before the December 19 meeting, the Board gathered with friends, colleagues and family of the late Trustee Beau Ross to dedicate the WHS Business Incubator room in his name. Beau's sons Boland and Winston and wife, Kathryn Ross attended the unveiling of a plaque in the room.

The Board recognized retiring Westlake Volleyball Coach Al Bennett at the December 19 meeting. Bennett, who has been named the American Volleyball Coaches Association National Coach of the Year and the State Coach of the Year, ends his career with more than 1,000 wins, 25 district championships and four state championships over his 30 years at Westlake.
