2020 WHS Eanespiration Winners

Educational Impact

Those who display leadership and commitment to the district by making a positive, noticeable and significant impact.

Jenna Scott, Science Teacher
Jenna Scott is a dedicated teacher leader at WHS. She works hard to help reach students with her integration of innovative pedagogies and technology into the classroom. She shares her passion for science with students each day.  Jenna also helps lead students in a Planning Club each Monday where she helps high schoolers learn how to organize their time -- something that will be a valuable skill for the future. Jenna also is a leader on campus in our Teacher Innovation Academy. She helps the group learn from her strategies, leading several expert sessions on how to plan, how to organize your emails, and how to use apps for formative assessments. Her dedication to her students and the faculty is unwavering -- she is a positive impact on students, teachers, and our entire WHS community.

Ed Snouffer, Choir Director
Everybody is somebody in Ed Snouffer's choir. He welcomes students of all abilities and includes everyone as equals. Mr. Snouffer has been a pioneer of inclusion at Westlake and it goes well beyond the classroom. He has an extraordinary number of students to deal with, but they all love and admire his ability to get the best out of them. His sense of humor, his kindness, and his talents make him deserving of this award.

Valerie Taylor, Educational Partner
Valerie has been an inspirational, hardworking and dedicated leader for all of the campus teachers through her work as an educational partner. She meets with each PLC team in humanities and helps support them with teaching strategies and instruction, meanwhile helps co-teach the Capstone class, and also sponsors clubs like the Poetry Slam clubs for students. She takes instruction seriously and cares about growing her own knowledge and helping others grow theirs. Her leadership on campus has helped so many teachers and it is invaluable.

Heroes

Those who perform an outstanding achievement that brings prestige to Eanes ISD, or do something that goes above and beyond the call of duty.

Christi Ford, AP Admin Assistant
Christi Ford is a true unsung hero and Eanespiration to all of us at WHS. Christi, among juggling many other duties, successfully fills an extremely large number of sub jobs - which can vary each day from a low of 30 to a high of 50. This doesn't count patching holes throughout the day that pop up at the last minute for multiple periods. She is an incredible problem solver with all issues that pass through the AP office, including parking, student and personnel issues - plus she searches for and creates long-term solutions to constantly improve operations. She is the first one to volunteer to help others with duties outside of her own, even if after hours. Not many know that Christi is also behind the remodels of both the front office, AP office, and the Principal's Conference Room – which she did an amazing job! Christi does everything with poise and grace, a positive attitude, and a warm and thoughtful heart, which is miraculous given the stress of her job. We are so thankful for you, Christi.

Shannon Haddon, Career & Technical Education Teacher
Coach Haddon is always going above and beyond for her students, team and school. She organized a holiday wrap party for our Girls Soccer program where the team went and wrapped holiday gifts for families in need. She helps to run the clock at soccer games and she even helps hand out donuts at early morning soccer games. She does all of this and she’s not even a coach! Coach Haddon is one of the most selfless teachers & coaches on campus. She has been a great mentor and an even better friend.

Luis Orosco, Maintenance & Operations Staff
We cannot thank Luis enough for his work above and beyond for the mathematics department and Westlake High School. Luis has come in early and stayed late to take care of the grounds at Westlake and the hallways, classrooms and restrooms after hours. Luis is friendly, caring and always willing to help someone who needs a hand. Luis is truly our Westlake hero!

Victor Reyes, Daytime Head Custodian
It is our pleasure to nominate Victor Reyes for the Heroes Award. Victor has come to the rescue of the mathematics department several times this year assisting with room cleanliness and upkeep. He has checked on us daily and done so with a smile. We are so grateful for the pride he takes in being a member of our EISD community.

Innovation

Those who implement a creative or innovative program, teaching method, cost-savings, etc.

Melinda Darrow, Art History Teacher
Melinda Darrow's passion for art history inspires students to take her courses for three years, including Art History Independent Study. She has helped develop a trip for students to Washington D.C. to utilize the Smithsonian libraries and Library of Congress which has been a hugely positive experience for her students. On a daily basis, she inspires their love of art, and is always available to help and support their growth.
