Eanes Board of Trustees
An Update from the Eanes ISD Board of Trustees
Superintendent's Report
The May board meetings consisted of committee reports and updates. One particular report I'm happy to announce is the Eanes Education Foundation's 2019-20 grant - EEF announced they will gift the District $2.55 million to fund 51 teachers next year! What an amazing accomplishment that is because of the support of so many in the community. Thank you!

We also welcomed new trustees Heather Sheffield and James Spradley, and welcomed back trustee Ellen Balthazar, who was elected to her seventh term. We said goodbye to Dr. Colleen Jones and Rob Hargett, who have served the school district and this community for many years. Their leadership and commitment to kids has been incredible and we are extremely grateful for their service.

Eanes Bond
Bond Passes By 82 Percent
Eanes ISD voters approved an $80 million bond proposal May 4th. Projects will now move forward in safety & security, student programs & support, energy efficiency & conservation, and facilities. The bond also includes new spaces for the Westlake High School aquatics and wrestling programs and expanded space for the robotics and engineering programs.

"We are thankful to our residents for showing their support of our students and staff, and for helping to continue our commitment to excellence," said Dr. Tom Leonard, superintendent of schools. "The passage of this bond brings incredible opportunities for our students at all levels and takes the pressure off our Maintenance and Operations (M&O) budget, which is needed to pay for teacher salaries."

Inclusive Culture Committee Update
In an effort to seek ways to continue to improve practices and opportunities for students with disabilities, Eanes ISD initiated the formation of the Community Building Group on Inclusive Culture. The Inclusive Culture Committee was formed through an application process and consisted of parents, teachers, and administrators totaling just over 30 members with experience or interest in the charge representing stakeholder groups from all school levels (PPCD, Elementary, Middle, High and ATS).

Envision Eanes Committee Update
The co-chairs of the Envision Eanes committee presented an update at the May 21 meeting. The formal advisory committee was formed to explore how Eanes ISD can become a greater institution of education and innovation for the next generation, being mindful of student wellness and achievement.

BCE Assistant Principal Introduced
Laura Coaxum was introduced as the Barton Creek Elementary assistant principal at the May 7 meeting. Michael Buthe (Forest Trail Elementary), Holly Reid (Cedar Creek Elementary) and Brandis Smoland (Valley View Elementary) were announced as new assistant principals in April. The new positions are a result from a Texas Association of School Boards audit and recommendation to add assistant principals at elementary schools that did not have them.

ELA Instructional Materials Adopted
The EISD Proclamation 2019 Adoption Committee has determined recommendations for instructional materials for English Language Arts in grades K-8. New TEKS will be implemented next fall and the recommended instructional materials best achieved the committee's mission
