Decisions, Decisions, Decisions.......
One of the most interesting events may take place in the senior year of high school: the chance to vote in a public election. There are many opportunities as kids move from 14 year old freshmen to 18 year old seniors that have huge relevance. These might include the attainment of a driver’s license, working a first job, traveling alone for the first time, and choosing what to do after high school. All of these lead to growth and maturity hopefully, but they can still have the support of parents and friends....

SOPHOMORE MEETINGS are next week!  Parents are invited to join their student during English class on March 11 or 12 (click here for schedule times and locations). Students will receive a transcript and GPA for the first time and we will break down that document; we will review PSAT scores from October and discuss how to make use of those scores. We will review surveys in Naviance that students have taken to gain insight into possible careers, and we will discuss college admissions, including how to use Naviance as a tool to explore colleges. Are there topics you hope we cover? Or questions you'd like us to answer? Fill out this form and we will do our best to incorporate them.

Counselors will host a parent night for Junior students and their parents on Monday, March 30 at 6pm in the PAC. There will be a panel of current seniors and a panel of college admissions representatives to help shine a light on best practices for the college admission process.

Save the date: April 16 is the National College Fair held at the Palmer Events Center at 6pm. This is an excellent opportunity to visit with several hundred colleges from across the nation. See a list of schools that will be there are register to attend here.

Senior Class of 2020!

All seniors will be participating in our annual “Senior Service Day” by volunteering their time throughout the community on the same day, at the same time.  This is a required activity on April 9th.

Monday, March 23rd, your child will get the sign up information emailed to them.  Spots at each agency are limited.  Those that don’t sign up, will be placed at agencies with open spots.  All communication will be sent through Naviance.

Be prepared to have fun!  Students have really enjoyed this activity in the past!

Email Katie Bryant, LCSW-S, Student Support Counselor, if there are questions after you get the email with sign up information.

On Monday, March 2, the cast and crew of the UIL One Act Play "She Kills Monsters" participated in our 2020 Zone Contest at Austin ISD Performing Arts Center.

After a LONG day (ask a cast or crew member for the full run down), we did not advance to the next round of contest, BUT several of our company were honored with awards:

  • Outstanding Technician: Joey Hummel
  • Honorable Mention All Star Cast: Alexander Anselmo and Cole Kosch
  • All Star Cast: Mina Mashhoon

We're bringing the show to life one last time for the WHS community on Tuesday, March 10 at 7pm in the PAC. If you'd like to join us, please do so free of charge. (It's a 40 minute show, so you'll be out in time for that rerun of "Quantum Leap" you're just dying to catch.)

Thanks as always for your support of the arts at Westlake, and Westlake Theatre in particular.
