COUNSELING / COURSE SELECTION

NACAC COLLEGE FAIR

March 26 is the NACAC College Fair Austin from 5:30-8:00 pm at the Palmer Events Center. You can view a full list of colleges represented and register here. (Registering gives students a barcode that can be scanned by college reps at colleges of interest -- this gives colleges a student's contact information in order to communicate with them.)

SOPHOMORES...

March 28 and 29 are the dates for this year's Sophomore Meetings. Parents are invited to join their student during English for these group presentations with counselors.

More information will be coming through Skyward in the near future.

  • March 29 we will meet with students who have these English teachers: Bracken, Fenter, Montgomery, Phillips

JUNIORS...

Westlake student Melissa Khasbagan presented a session, Fostering Youth Entrepreneurship, at this year's SXSWEdu, alongside Westwood student Aarushi Machavarapu and Memorial High School student Crystal Wang. Khasbagan is the founder of the nonprofit 1000 Books For

(http://www.1000booksfor.org) as well as co-founder of TeenLink. The student entrepreneurs advocated for starting the process early when students have a good support system and can take more risks.

Khasbagan also feels that students have a unique angle on the world's problems. All three presenters encouraged schools to start entrepreneurship in early grades, for teachers to be supportive when young entrepreneurs have to miss classes for their work, and also were supportive of the roles of women in entrepreneurship. Machavarapu founded Threading Twine, as well as TalkSafe LLC, and Crystal Wang is the founder of SOAR, Studentsfor Oncological Aid and Relief.

Westlake Theatre's production of The Women of Lockerbie performed Wednesday at the District 25-6A One Act Play Contest at Austin High. Although we are not an advancing play this time around, several members of our company earned individual awards:

Outstanding Technician: Katie Nabors

Honorable Mention All Star Cast: Jemima Abalogu & Reem Hinedi

All Star Cast: Mina Mashhoon

We're all very grateful to have shared this story of hope and light with so many, and hope to be able to share it one last time with the WHS community here on campus (stay tuned!).

Thanks as always for your support of the arts at Westlake!

CLASS of 2020 - SENIOR YEAR PARKING

Class of 2020 and Parents,

We hope everyone is having a great Spring! As your Senior year draws near, we want to make sure we take care of your parking needs.

On March 14th, at 6:30pm, we opened the 2019-2020 Senior Parking Sign-up. If you plan to park on campus at any point during your Senior Year, you must sign up to reserve a space.

We have close to 700 seniors in the 2020 Senior Class, and want to be able to park all our seniors that request parking. After we take care of the seniors, we will open parking to the Junior Class. If you do not sign up for parking, you run the risk that a space is not available.

If you do not have your driver's license yet, but plan on getting it during your senior year and want to park on campus, please make sure to sign up. We may not be able to accommodate your parking needs if you are not on the sign-up list.

The Senior Parking Sign-Up link went live on March 14that 6:30pm.
