One of Those Eternal Truths...

As we get older, there are a few universal truths that get discussed regularly. One of these is how quickly time can progress as our students move from elementary to middle school, and as they then move on and complete their time at Westlake High School.

The old adage of "time flying" is remarkably true. For a little mathematical perspective, here are the numbers:

Freshmen - 19% completed at WHS but 75% with K-12 experience,
Sophomores - 44% completed at WHS and 83% with K-12 experience,
Juniors - 69% completed at WHS and 90% with K-12 experience,

Seniors - 94% completed at WHS and 98% with their full district experience.

As I am planning on attending a wedding weekend beginning this evening of two former Chaparrals, I was reminded of a conversation I had with one of their moms last fall...

COUNSELING / COURSE SELECTION

NACAC COLLEGE FAIR

March 26 is the NACAC College Fair Austin from 5:30-8:00 pm at the Palmer Events Center. You can view a full list of colleges represented and register here. (Registering gives students a barcode that can be scanned by college reps at colleges of interest -- this gives colleges a student's contact information in order to communicate with them.)

SOPHOMORES...

March 28 and 29 are the dates for this year's Sophomore Meetings. Parents are invited to join their student during English for these group presentations with counselors.

More information will be coming through Skyward in the near future.

  • March 28 we will meet with students who have these English teachers: Adams, Fifield, Newton, Olsen, Yeoman

  • March 29 we will meet with students who have these English teachers: Bracken, Fenter, Montgomery, Phillips

JUNIORS...

April 1 will be our Junior Parent AND Student Night in the Concert Hall (PAC) at 6pm -- counselors hope to see you and your junior there.

Thank You to Superintendent Dr. Leonard for being our guest speaker at the PTO General Meeting last Friday and educating us on the May 2019 bond at our general meeting last week. You can find more information about the bond on the Eanes ISD website at: May 2019 Bond.

Each Spring and Fall the PTO receives funding requests from teachers and staff towards special projects and items to further enhance the learning environment and opportunities for our children.  It is always one of our favorite things to discuss and vote on as a Board.  Here is a list of our Spring Allocations to show you the exciting things your No Hassle Donations are helping to fund!  THANK YOU for your ongoing and generous support  - we would not be this amazing without all of YOU!!!

And thank you to our Allocations Chair, Tiffany Hildreth, for all her hard work.

The nomination window for the WHS PTO Staff Award is now open. Click here to nominate a WHS staff member for the award.

Shout out to Assistant Principal Casey Ryan for his continued support with setting this up and as we head to the finish line.

Warmly,

This past weekend, 24 WHS Model UN delegates traveled to New York City to participate in the National High School Model United Nations Conference, the largest high school MUN conference in the world. NHSMUN focuses on education and enrichment, evident in their 60+ page background guides for each committee to help delegates prepare. We heard some great speakers, including UNICEF Chief Engagement, Advocacy, and Global Programs Officer Anucha Browne, and former National Security Advisor and US Ambassador to the UN, Susan Rice.

WHS students worked so hard to represent the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, and had the opportunity to discuss current international affairs with a desk manager at the UK Mission.

This session of NHSMUN hosted ~2,500 students from around the world, and of the 10 delegation awards granted in total, Westlake MUN delegates earned the Award of Excellence for their collective efforts in their respective committees. I am beyond proud of these amazing young people!!

Thank you so much for your continued support of this student organization.
