COUNSELING / COURSE SELECTION

AP Exam Registration opened February 4 and closes March 4. Students who are enrolled in an AP (not PreAP) course and who want to take the exam in May must register and pay. We encourage you to register early; a late fee will be assessed beginning February 25. Learn more and register here.

Freshmen, Sophomores, and Juniors should be updating their four-year-plan (Career Plan) in Skyward before February 26th. When finished, both student and parent need to eSign the Career Plan in Skyward. Updating the four-year-plan and signing it are requirements by the State of Texas. Learn more here

SAVE THE DATES

  • March 26 is the NACAC College Fair Austin from 5:30-8:00pm at the Palmer Events Center. You can view a full list of colleges represented and register here. (Registering gives students a barcode that can be scanned by college reps at colleges of interest -- this gives colleges a student's contact information in order to communicate with them.)

  • April 1 will be our Junior Parent AND Student Night in the Concert Hall (PAC) at 6pm -- counselors hope to see you and your junior there.

Ryan Cantrell, senior, took this image of the Iwamoto Comet on Tuesday night at the Astronomy class Star Party. We tried for several hours to "see" the comet using binoculars and telescopes. Since it was rising in the light of Austin, we had hoped that we would be able find it but it is dim so the light of the city obscured it. As it rose high enough in the sky we were even more hopeful, but none of us could see it even with specific directions about its location. The Moon was shining too brightly to allow the dim comet to stand out . This comet is considered a long period comet. It only passes by Earth once every 1162 years. Ryan pointed his digital SLR in the direction of the comet, as Mr. Murphy pointed a laser in the area it should be, and he was able to capture this photo. This is really the shot of a lifetime (comet at center of picture). Congratulations, Ryan.
