Congrats to our FTC Robotics teams

at Austin Metro League Championships

WHS had 5 teams compete in the FIRST Tech Challenge compete in the Austin Metro League Championships this past weekend. These teams began preparing for the contest back in early September with the reveal of the Rover Ruckus. Most of our students are 9th and 10th graders with a few juniors on the teams. Many of the teams we competed against are junior and senior laden teams. The tournament consisted of two different divisions of 34 teams each.

We had the following teams compete: PhiRhos, Taus, Sigmas, Rhomans and Philos. Three of our teams were eliminated from the tournament at the hands of a fellow WHS team with one team being tournament champion and alliance captain.

Results
The Taus were #3 Alliance Captains and tournament Champions winning the 2019 Austin Cup and qualifying for the Regional Tournament in New Braunfels. The Taus finished qualifications in 4th place in the Williams Division.

The Rhomans were Williams Division winners and Tournament Finalists losing to the Taus Alliance. They finished qualifications in 9th place in the Keller Division.

The Philos were Keller Division #1 Alliance Captains and finalists losing to the Taus Alliance. They completed qualifications in 1st place. They also received 2nd Runner-up in the Design and Motivate awards.

The Sigmas were Williams Division #4 Alliance Captains and Semi-finalists after being eliminated by the Rhomans alliance. They completed qualifications in 4th place.

PiRhos completed the day in 9th place in the Williams Division.

The Rhomans, Philos and Sigmas all qualified for the Alamo Region Wildcard Tourament located in San Antonio on February 16th. The tournament will consist of teams from the Alamo regional who will attempt to qualify for the Alamo Regional Tournament to be held in New Braunfels on March 1st and 2nd. The Austin Metro Championships has proven to be one of the toughest competitions in FTC not only in the state of Texas but also on the global level.
