Principal Ramsey and the Counseling department will be presenting "The Class Of 2018, College Report" and will share all kinds of interesting information on where our kids really apply, get accepted and attend.

COUNSELING

OK, so this might be a pretty simplified diagram but the fact of the matter is, managing our stress CAN be pretty simple IF we actually make the time to engage in some of these "simple" activities.

Check out our blog to learn more!

Thank you for the awesome turnout for the first half of our 2018-2019 Speaker Series. We will be back January 24th for "Positive Discipline: Parenting Your Teen With Confidence!"  In the meantime please feel free to look over old presentations or listen to them as podcasts!

At the Glenbrooks Tournament just outside of Chicago, Junior Maddie Szoo won 4th place overall in Original Oratory. Maddie was competing against 160 of the top orators in the country. Maddie also advanced to the semifinal round (the top 12 in the tournament) of Program Oral Interpretation. Maddie earned two Tournament of Champions bids and has worked hard to become one of the top speakers in the country! Senior Ali Slimi and Junior Miles Dintzner, and Senior Nicolas Ho and Sophomore Jason Luo advanced to the Double Octafinal round of Public Forum Debate. They earned Silver Tournament of Champions bids for this result. Sophomore Xuechen Yin and Junior Preston Williams compiled a 5-2 record in Public Forum Debate preliminary rounds and just missed advancing to elimination rounds. Junior Andrew Lee finished 4-3 in Lincoln-Douglas Debate.

These are incredibly positive results for these students and are a credit to their hard work. Go Chaps!

Conducting Research at the World's Largest Library!

The Advanced Art History students, with Art History teacher Ms. Darrow and Librarian Ms. Foote, traveled to Washington, D.C. to conduct research at the Library of Congress and the Smithsonian Museum Libraries for their thesis papers. The Smithsonian librarian said that our students' topics are more complex than the PhD dissertations they are used to seeing; they were so impressed by the scholarly and sophisticated work of our high school students. Students are now working with Westbank Community Library to borrow Smithsonian materials to continue their research.

FILM CAMERAS NEEDED!

Image

Attention Westlake families:

Do you have old film cameras

that are gathering dust somewhere?

Did you know that the photography classes at WHS

have a working darkroom but only

a small number of film cameras?

If you are willing to part with any film cameras,

the students would benefit by having more to go around.

Please contact Alison Strelitz at

astrelitz@eanesisd.net with any questions.

Thank you!
