MESSAGE FROM PRINCIPAL STEVE RAMSEY
Turkey Fatigue, a Small Change, and a Quick Finish...
When we returned to campus on Monday, one could recognize that most of our students and staff had clearly established a new routine over the Thanksgiving Break. Whether it was sleeping in, napping, staying up late, changing one's diet or exercise routine, we have been a little fatigued this week. One can tell how sleepy a campus can be from what is not said, by the level of noise in the halls, and the yawns. Teenagers are always tired so the change in body language and lack of noise are the keys. Everyone loved the week off, but it's hard to get back into the routine when it's a little cold in the morning and even the car seats are cold.

Mark your calendars! Our next PTO general meeting will be on Friday, Jan 18th at noon in the PAC Recital Hall. Principal Ramsey and the Counseling department will be presenting "The Class Of 2018, College Report" and will share all kinds of interesting information on where our kids really apply, get accepted and attend.

CHALLENGE SUCCESS
Challenge Success update:
Beginning Friday, November 30th, and through Friday, December 7th, some of our teachers will participate in the Student-for-a-Day program. The purpose is for the participants to step into the shoes of a student, not to evaluate teachers or other students. Research shows that this builds empathy and increases the student to teacher care perception.
The Challenge Success Student Club plans to continue with its mindful, stress relieving activities during finals week. They will also host another Coffee with Chaps early next year.
We are looking at outdoor spaces to see what changes we can make. We are hoping to create an outdoor classroom and spruce up other areas that could be used throughout the day. If we have any Eagle Scouts looking for a project, contact us!

Photo Texas will be on campus Dec. 10-11 for the last time. This is the final opportunity for seniors to have their portrait taken for the yearbook. Junior golfer, Sadie Englemann, is being recognized as the 2018 Southern Texas PGA Junior Golfer of the Year! This award is given to one young lady and one young man who possess excellent sportsmanship as well as strong academic and social character with high regard to the ideals upon which golf is founded. Coca - Cola Scholars Foundation Semifinalist
Last week the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation notified nearly 1,900 applicants they have been named a semifinalist for the 2019 Coca-Cola Scholarship Program. These students were selected from among 200,000+ applications for their outstanding commitment to both their communities and schools.

Chaps Advance to Regional Semifinals
Westlake beat Brennan HS to advance to the regional semifinals and will now play Edinburg Vela HS at Buccaneer Stadium in Corpus Christi Friday night at 7:30pm.
