The Westlake Chaps take down the Brennan Bears

Turkey Fatigue, a Small Change, and a Quick Finish...

When we returned to campus on Monday, one could recognize that most of our students and staff had clearly established a new routine over the Thanksgiving Break. Whether it was sleeping in, napping, staying up late, changing one's diet or exercise routine, we have been a little fatigued this week. One can tell how sleepy a campus can be from what is not said, by the level of noise in the halls, and the yawns. Teenagers are always tired so the change in body language and lack of noise are the keys. Everyone loved the week off, but it's hard to get back into the routine when it's a little cold in the morning and even the car seats are cold.

As we approach the season of giving, I would like to invite local businesses in our community to partner with the WHS PTO, and help us fulfill our mission to enrich the educational experience of students at Westlake High School by providing volunteer and financial support to Westlake High School's teachers, administrators, counselors, and students. Click here to visit our community partners webpage to learn more.

We would love for you to stay connected with us! Our communications chair does a fabulous job at keeping the community informed about our activities via our newsletter, Chap Connections, delivered monthly to your inbox. Our wonderful webmaster strives to keep our website current and up-to-date, so make sure to visit us at www.whspto.net for current updates. Our social media presence is steadily growing, and I encourage you to follow us on Facebook ("Westlake High School PTO") and on Instagram (whspto).

Mark your calendars! Our next PTO general meeting will be on Friday, Jan 18th at noon in the PAC Recital Hall. Principal Ramsey and the Counseling department will be presenting "The Class Of 2018, College Report" and will share all kinds of interesting information on where our kids really apply, get accepted and attend.

Please see below for an incredible opportunity to support our teachers and staff this holiday season!

Have you ever realized that when you're in a bad mood, you are more likely to react negatively to what happens during the day? On the other hand, have you ever noticed that when you're in a good mood, those same happenings wouldn't bother you? The way we think determines how we live..

Learn about the relationship between your thoughts and your experience by reading this week's blog post: A Simple Trick to Increase Happiness.

The 2018-2019 Speaker Series will be back December 6th for "Catching the Signs: Suicide and Self-Harm Awareness".  In the meantime please feel free to look over old presentations or listen to them as podcasts!

Be sure to scroll the Speaker Series section for additional presentations and free learning opportunities in our community covering topics like effective communication, teen depression, supporting your child through ADHD, and the gifts of diversity.

Hello parents!  With finals just around the corner, there is no better time to get on your student's Skyward account and make sure all their absences are documented.

All A's are undocumented.

Challenge Success update:

Beginning Friday, November 30th, and through Friday, December 7th, some of our teachers will participate in the Student-for-a-Day program. The purpose is for the participants to step into the shoes of a student, not to evaluate teachers or other students. Research shows that this builds empathy and increases the student to teacher care perception.

The Challenge Success Student Club plans to continue with its mindful, stress relieving activities during finals week. They will also host another Coffee with Chaps early next year.

We are looking at outdoor spaces to see what changes we can make. We are hoping to create an outdoor classroom and spruce up other areas that could be used throughout the day. If we have any Eagle Scouts looking for a project, contact us!

Attention Westlake families:

Do you have old film cameras

that are gathering dust somewhere?

Did you know that the photography classes at WHS

have a working darkroom but only

a small number of film cameras?

If you are willing to part with any film cameras,

the students would benefit by having more to go around.

Please contact Alison Strelitz at

astrelitz@eanesisd.net with any questions.

Thank you!
