Fall is in the air! Hope everyone is enjoying the cooler weather. Looking forward to seeing many of you at the football game tonight.
Did You Know...
that the PTO manages ALL concessions at WHS?! 50% of the net proceeds go to PTO and the other 50% is divided among the many clubs and teams that work concessions throughout the year. When you buy concessions at the games, you are also supporting the students and staff at WHS! And...if you need cash at the game tonight for concessions (cash only!), there is an ATM machine right by the Home Concession stand.
Congratulations to our amazing No Hassle Fundraiser (NHF) Co-Chairs, Kristin Paull and Paige McClendon, for running our successful campaign and thank you to Principal Steve Ramsey for drawing our raffle prize winner last week.
We are VERY grateful to our wonderful raffle prize package sponsors (Athletics, Choir, WestlakeTEC, Hyline, Rosse & James) and to all of our kind families who have contributed to the No Hassle Fundraiser to date.

Dates are still open for your student to get help with College essays from WHS English Teachers, sponsored by our PTO.
Have your student fill out the form, which can only be accessed by students with their Eanes ISD email.

COUNSELING CORNER
From the Guidance Counselors...
October 23 is the last day this semester to request a level drop (from a PreAP/AP course to the same course at regular level). Schedule change forms are available in the counseling office and here; signatures from the teacher AND parent are required.
Between September 28th and October 5th, counselors met with freshmen in their English classes to introduce them to Naviance software. Students took a Learning Styles Inventory that is intended to help them understand their preferences for studying. We encourage you to ask your student to login to Naviance and show you their report so you can help support them in maximizing study habits. Sixteen categories include the following preferences for studying/learning:
- Alone or with a group
- At a desk or not
- In silence or with some kind of noise
- With food/drink
- Light and temperature levels
- Listening/speaking in order to learn material
- Sitting still or moving around
Freshmen also learned how to see what colleges are visiting Westlake and how to start building a resume.
On Wednesday, October 10th, while sophomores and juniors were taking the PSAT, freshmen went through six rotations on various topics. The counselors would like to give a big thank you to the seniors who served on a panel during that time to share their high school experience so far and offer practical advice to our freshmen: Haden Cunningham, Halle Gordon, Ella Kernaghan, Ben Knaupe, Claire Kurker, Haena Lee, Hope Noteboom, Mikaela Salisbury, Nolan Screen, Cassandra Shin, Clark Simpler, Ali Slimi, Mary Taaffe, Aneesh Thakkar, and Jason Thomas.

Remember the good ole days of keeping a diary? Well turns out that was actually extremely beneficial for us for a number of reasons. Check out this week's blog to learn the health benefits of journaling!
We hope you were able to make this week's 2018-2019 Speaker Series presentation about "Anxiety: When Does it Become a Problem and How to Support Your Anxious Teen!" Don't worry if you had to miss because we have them online we have them online! and now as PODCASTS!

SENIORS
- Senior Panoramic Picture – This will be taken next week on Tuesday, October 16th, during 2nd period. All Seniors should report to their 2nd period class, where an announcement will be made to head out to the PAC parking lot.
- Important Dates – This is a list of dates developed by the Counseling Office to help you keep in mind upcoming important days and events.
- Graduation FAQ – This sheet is designed to answer common questions regarding the graduation ceremony.
- Graduation DVD Ordering – Ordering information, should you be interested in ordering and purchasing a DVD of the graduation ceremony.
- Project Graduation – Registration is open and students are encouraged to register, as these is a great evening to cap of a special celebration.

In September, the Board heard reports on several topics including an update on summer bond projects, potential bond discussions, an update on the District's goal on Special Education and more. You will notice there are numerous opportunities for discussion and involvement; please participate as you are able.
