Things are already running full steam ahead which means it's even more important to remember to slow down. Check out our blog to learn more!

The 2018-2019 Speaker Series is back! Next Thursday the 13th you'll hear about "Managing Your Digital Life: Strategies for Note-taking, Digital Organization, Calendars, and Time Management". Don't worry if you can't attend because we have them online!

Senior Parents

Counselors met with seniors Tuesday and Wednesday about college admissions. We will be hosting Senior Parent Night on September 11 at 6pm in the PAC. The evening will open with a panel of college admissions representatives from public and private colleges who will share admissions insights, followed by information from the Westlake counselors on applying to college. Panelists are from Texas A&M, the University of Tulsa, Southwestern University, and the University of Alabama. Panelists will be available to take questions for 30 minutes beginning at 5:30 if you want to come early.

Juniors & Seniors - COLLEGE FAIR (for students only)

The Hills of Austin College Fair is September 25th. Juniors will attend from 8:50-9:30am and Seniors will attend from 9:35-10:35am. Over 140 colleges are scheduled to attend -- we will send out a list closer to the date (colleges will be organized by region in the Chap Court and courtyard). This is a great opportunity for students to meet college representatives and ask questions about colleges they might be interested in.

Freshman iPad Base Camp

On Tuesday, September 4th, all Freshmen engaged in our 4th annual iPad Base Camp, designed to provide a baseline of instructional and organizational use and familiarity with the iPad and a carefully selected group of apps.

Students spent time...

  • Setting up their google calendars
  • Organizing their class folders and documents in Notability
  • Familiarizing themselves with new features in Keynote that will be helpful in upcoming student projects
  • And much more!

The four stations and directions can be found on the WHS Ed Tech website here.

Some of the student comments we received were:

  • "One thing that I benefitted from was the handwriting to text in Notability."
  • "I like the suggestion of color coding folders for different classes as this will help me be more organized."
  • "I liked how we went over the google calendar. I needed help with it. :)"
  • "The calendar goals system is useful and I did'n't know it was there."
  • "It was helpful to look at keynote because I think the app will be helpful for presentations in the future."
  • "I liked learning about the new features that make my school life a lot easier. Definitely a good thing for freshmen to know."
  • "I loved this so much."
  • "I enjoyed the time that I got to get all my apps in order. Being new to the school I needed to know all the apps I needed so this was helpful."
  • "I learned how to use the several apps and actually know how to use them for their purpose."
