Rachel Stewart & Elena Hauser

Leukemia and Lymphoma's Society Students of the Year

Elena Hauser and Rachel Stewart were candidates in the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's (LLS) 2018 Students of the Year Campaign. They each ran their own fundraising campaigns as part of LLS's innovative initiative for high school students. This year there were a total of 12 candidate teams that raised an INCREDIBLE $615,000 that will go towards LLS's mission: cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families.

Candidates for Students of the Year sign up for a fierce seven-week fundraising competition, and recruit their family and friends to help them raise critical funds, which LLS deploys to advance breakthrough treatments and to support the more than 1.3 million blood cancer patients in the U.S. The candidates/teams who raise the most money at the end of the competition earn the title "Student(s) of the Year" and receive a scholarship to the school of their choice. The students raise money in honor of a local patient hero who is currently battling or is in remission from a blood cancer.

Victoria Benavides

2018 Gold Star Recipient

Congratulations to Victoria Benavides who has been awarded the Girl Scout Gold Star! The Girl Scout Gold Award is the highest level of achievement in Girl Scouting. Girls who pursue the award learn leadership and organizational skills, and a sense of community and commitment that sets the foundation for a lifetime of active citizenship. The Girl Scout Gold Award provides the opportunity for girls to create "take action" projects that further the Girl Scout brand in our communities, helping girls to make the world a better place.

Victoria started the "Westlake Slam Poetry Club", to teach students public speaking skills, critical thinking, writing, criticism, and overall confidence. Club members competed on a national level through Young Arts and Scholastic and had many public performances within the Westlake community and downtown Austin.

SCHOOL NEWS

Westlake Hyline presents "Zenith 2018:  Quoted"
April 19, 20 & 21, WHS Performing Arts Center
Tickets are on sale at www.whszenith.com.

You've seen them on the field at Chaparral Stadium, now come see them on stage!  The Westlake Hyline dance team presents their annual spring show, Zenith, on April 19, 20 and 21 at 7:30 at the WHS Performing Arts Center. This year's theme, "Quoted," was chosen because of the many ways dance can inspire, uplift and communicate in the way some of the most often-quoted words do, sometimes even more powerfully. The team, supported by the highly-acclaimed production talents of the WHS Technical Entertainment Crew (TEC), will perform a wide range of fresh, fun choreography:  lyrical, hip-hop, modern, jazz and tap, in addition to their award-winning competition pieces and the beloved "Bob & Susie" dance featuring team fathers!  Hyline is also proud to welcome to the stage the Starsteppers, the Dance Department Classes, the Madrigals, vocal and instrumental soloists, a high-tech light show, Cheer and the can't-miss "Gyline" to showcase the many performance talents that thrive at Westlake High School.

Sophomores and Sophomore Parents,

Please remember there is absolutely NO PARKING FOR SOPHOMORES on the Westlake Campus or surrounding District Facilities. Juniors and Seniors are not allowed to grant permission for sophomores to park in their assigned spot on campus. The first offense will result in a ticket, the 2nd offense will result in a ticket and a boot, and the 3rd offense will result in the towing of the vehicle. Repeat offenders may lose their parking privileges in the future.

Neither Westlake HS nor Eanes ISD have any control of the surrounding businesses. They will usually tow on the first offense.
