Westlake Students Making a Difference!

If you have been reading the American Statesman, Teen Vogue or Texas Monthly, chances are you already know about our students who are working hard to make a difference.

Pictured at the  top: Naira Ikram was featured in the Statesman recognizing her for founding thehejab.org which helps broaden how Muslim women are understood. The ongoing HeForShe campaign fosters a new age of feminism, one in which men are proponents of gender equality along with women. Hejab seeks to initiate a new age of Islamic Feminism, the idea that Islam is a vehicle to carry the spirit of feminism and uplift women.

Pictured in the middle: Rohit and Sidharth Srinivasan were featured in

Texas Monthly's article, The  Most Innovative People in Texas. The brothers

co-founded Trashbots, which makes a $100 kit that enables kids to build robots using everyday detritus such as Popsicle sticks and water bottles. This makes STEM concepts more available to kids with few resources. 600 kits have  been pre-ordered and the product hits Indiegogo.com this month. Click Trashbots to read the article.

Pictured on the bottom: Saanya Bhargava was honored in Teen Vogue's

21 Under 21 and the Statesman for her skills and innovative ideas. She founded impact.gravitas along with Laura Laboon, Anna Hendricks, Jessica White, Kendall Bobbitt, Catherine Barany and Taarika Bhargava.

impact.gravitas is a youth organization focused on increasing awareness and developing collaborative solutions to the growing problem of ocean plastic pollution. For more information, click impact.gravitas.

FROM PTO

Looking to make a HUGE impact in the WHS Community?

We are looking for a Treasurer-Elect who will serve as Treasurer during the

2018-2019 school year.

The PTO is a 501(c)(3) responsible for managing an annual budget of just over $100K/yr. This role is critical in ensuring that we can continue to fund programs at WHS which have included the language lab, campus improvements, PTO bucks, and upwards of 20+ projects/year.

We have an EXCELLENT Treasurer role model, Gayle Yenawine, who will teach you everything you need to know. If interested, please contact Debra Thompson at (512) 413-5589 or email westlakeptopresident@gmail.com

February General PTO meeting is cancelled.

Next general meeting is March 23rd.

Q&A with Steve 11:30-Noon,

followed by PTO general meeting

Noon - 1 pm, Chap Room.
