2018 All-State Band Musicians

Congratulations WHS 2018 All - State Band Musicians!

All - State is the highest honor a Texas music student can receive. Over 1,700 students are selected through a process that begins with over 64,000 students from around the state vying for the honor to perform in one of the 15 ensembles (bands, orchestras and choirs). The Westlake High School Band will be represented by these 10 fine musicians at the TMEA Convention this February.

Teen Vogues' 21 Under 21 2017

"Girls are not just tomorrow's leaders — they are speaking out, standing up, and fighting back today. From science to sports, all of Teen Vogue's 21 Under 21 honorees are solving some of our most pressing problems and encouraging others to join them.

I am inspired by their stories: Saanya Bhargava used her STEM skills and innovative ideas to reduce plastic waste in our oceans...." - Malala Yousafzai

 

Saanya was selected for her work fighting plastic pollution and advocacy of STEM education. She is an environmental activist and a youth ambassador for the Plastic Pollution Coalition and Lonely Whale Foundation to bring awareness about the problem of single use plastics. She is also on the executive committee and a co-founder of a student-led organization called SACOT (STEM Advocacy Conference of Texas), an outreach effort for the Westlake Robotics team with a mission to give high school students a voice in their STEM education through political advocacy. 

Debate Team's Success at Winston Churchill Classic!

 

The Public Forum Debate Team of Senior Olivia Hardage and Sophomore Miles Dintzner advanced to the final round of Varsity Public Forum Debate, earning a bid to the Tournament of Champions in Lexington, Kentucky. Olivia and Miles began debating together last year as novices. They have worked hard to become one of the top PF teams in Texas.


Juniors Miles Sigel and Ali Slimi advanced to the semifinal round of Varsity Public Forum.

Westlake has two of the top Public Forum Debate teams in Texas!

 

 Freshman Sage Shirley advanced to the semifinal round of Varsity Oral Interpretation.

Wrestling Chaps Take Vista Ridge in 11th Annual Brawl!

 

Despite having 2 senior captains out with the flu, the Varsity Wrestling team won the 11th Annual Lunchroom Brawl over Vista Ridge, 34-30!

FROM THE COUNSELING OFFICE


Course Selection for 2018-19 has begun at Westlake High School! Counselors met with Freshmen on January 17 and will meet with them again one-on-one between January 24th and February 2nd. On January 22 we will meet with juniors and on January 23 we will meet with sophomores. Resources to assist students and parents with making balanced choices can be found on the counseling website under the course selection link.

We want your students to stay on the right track so don't miss our guest blog helping kids (and adults) learn how to prioritize their to-do lists!

Incredible turn out for the Speaker Series last week! Don't miss our next one Thursday, January 25th. As a reminder you can access video and handouts from past presentations.

Be sure to scroll through the Speaker Series section for more wonderful, free learning opportunities in the community! Upcoming opportunities range THREE different book studies; learning how to set healthy habits; workshops for girls and the adults in their lives; and yoga therapy groups!
