Being Thankful...... Thanksgiving Break is one of the major markers of the calendar year in all of our lives. It signals the arrival of fall in Texas, the near completion of a semester of school, and the beginning of a long winter break. KUDOS WHS Model UN Awarded Best Large Delegation! Model UN participated in the CTMUN Conference at UT Austin, along with almost 500 other Texas high school students. Delegates debated complex topics like the Venezuela crisis, the future of cyber warfare, ending statelessness, food price volatility, and the impact of medical patents on developing nations; among others. Congratulations to the following award winners: Best Delegate Rebecca Lin representing China in Security Council Ruy Martinez representing China in ECOFIN Ethan Haywood representing Lindsay Graham in the 2008 Financial Crisis Committee Distinguished Delegate Nakita Kakkad representing Nikki Haley in the North American Arctic Partnership Crisis Committee JD Carlton representing Louis Stanislas-Xavier in the First Coalition of the French Revolution Crisis Committee Honorable Mention Josh Wiedemeier representing Zambia in ECOFIN Boys' Varsity Golf Wins Dual Tournament The Varsity Golf Team finished off the fall season with an impressive win at the Westlake-Woodlands Dual tournament. The Chaps fired a 298-296 over the 36 holes winning by 15 shots over our Houston area opponents. J. Holland Humphries led the Chaps, Thomas Bockholt was 2nd low man. Hunter McDonough, Jackson Davenport, Nick Palmo and Blake Benson rounded out the scoring. The Chaps are leading Vandegrift 6 to 4. Way To Go Chaps! Texas Book Festival's Fresh Ink Fiction Contest Maddie Szoo was recently honored with 3rd place in the 9-10 grade division at this year's Texas Book Festival Fresh Ink Fiction Contest. Maddie's submitted her entry, "Pearly Gates". Middle and high school students from across the state are invited to submit a piece of original fiction and are judged by Texas Book Festival authors, local educators, and leaders in the publishing industry. All-State Jazz Musician! Ethan Lord auditioned and was selected as an All-State Jazz Musician, one of only forty students in Texas. High school students selected to perform in the All-State concerts have competed through several levels of auditions beginning in the fall of 2017 to qualify at the state level. All-State is the highest honor a Texas music student can receive. Only the top three percent of musicians who initially audition achieve this honor. STUDENT NEWS Jazz Band Kicks Off Fall Tour! The Westlake Jazz Ensemble kicked off their Fall Tour with a concert at Lucy's on the Lake this past Sunday. They continue their tour this Sunday, 11/19 at the Hill Country Galleria Amphitheater. Their set will begin at 5:00 pm. Celebrate with them as they ring in the holiday season the Chap Jazz way! Westlake Theatre presents: our children's theatre production of E.B. White's classic Charlotte's Web $5 students/kids - $10 adult admission Faculty/staff get free admission Two awesome ASL 4 students will be interpreting at the Saturday, November 18th matinee! 2017 Football Programs!
