Principal's Weekly Newsletter - August 27, 2010
Dear Chaps’ Families,
We have had a great first week of school at Westlake, and I know that both the staff and students are looking forward to the weekend. Adjusting to the early mornings is always a challenge at the start of the year!
We have just received confirmation that Westlake High School has 47 National Merit Semi-Finalists this year! Last year, 32 students earned this distinction. Students receive this honor based on their scores on the PSAT (Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test). Way to go, seniors!
We are moving the Chap Connections to an online publication this year in order to save money for our school. Printing and mailing 2,500 letters six times a year is very costly, and we are operating on a reduced budget this year. We plan to use the money we save on instructional supplies and support. We have created a special link on the website for the newsletter, and we will send out a reminder via the list-serv when new publications have been posted. The first Chap Connections for the year will be available next week.
Make-up student ID photos and yearbook photos for underclassmen will be taken during both lunches on Wednesday, September 1st. Order forms for purchasing photos are available in the AP offices and the WHS reception office. Remember, senior photos must be taken at Photo Texas Photography. Call 512-617-7780 to set up an appointment for senior yearbook portraits.
I hope to see you all at Back-to-School Night on Monday, September 13th. We have created a link on our website with an invitation to this event. You will want to print this out and have your child fill in his/her class schedule prior to that evening.
Our student body, football team, cheerleaders, band, Hyline, Push-up Squad, coaches, and I are all looking forward to the game against Lake Travis at DKR Stadium on Saturday evening at 7:30. Wear your red and blue and come out to support the team!
Go, Chaps!

Three areas are designated for students drop off and pick up. The designated areas are at the Ninth Grade Center driveway by the Cafeteria, in front of the WC PAC, or the driveway by the Chap Court. Parking along Westbank Drive is also causing a safety hazard for cars and buses as students are being picked up from the curb. For the safety of all, please pick up students in these designated areas.
