Senior Career Day is a program that gives our graduating seniors an opportunity to spend half a day with a business or in a professional area related to their career goals. Approximately 600 seniors participate each year. Our wonderful Guidance Committee works diligently to find relevant placements within the Austin business community. We are grateful to these dedicated women, as this program could not exist without their monumental efforts. We are also awed by the generosity of the community mentors who share their time and expertise with our seniors. The students go in small groups or individually to “shadow” the hosting business for the morning to see what types of experiences might make up a typical day in a given career area. As they choose colleges and future career paths during their senior year, this experience offers invaluable practical insight that can help them focus on appropriate courses of study to prepare for these careers.
Unless they have been instructed otherwise, seniors will arrive at Westlake around 7:45 a.m.on Wednesday, November 12th, placement at the agreed arrival time. With only a few exceptions, seniors are due back by 12:45 p.m.and will check in at the Recital Hall to turn in their visitation form, fill out a short evaluation, and write a thank you note before proceeding to 6th period class.
If you have a senior, please make sure their appearance is appropriate for their assignment; no jeans, shorts or t-shirts. Senior Career Day is somewhat unique to Westlake; we feel it provides our students with a rich opportunity to sample future options. Our students represent Westlake well.
