When I arrived at Westlake High School, there was one tradition that struck me in a powerful and unique way. This tradition is our Veteran's Day Assembly. KUDOS All State Medalist! Matthew Kearney finished his High School Cross Country career with a 6th place medal at the UIL State Meet. He received All State Academic and Athletic Awards for his efforts Matthew stands as a 4 time District Champion, 4 time Regional Qualifier and 4 time State Qualifier! He is a 4 time All Regional Team and this year is member of the All State Team. He was the Regional Champion for 2017 Region IV His time of 15:13 met the standard for the National Elite Gold Performance! JV Boys' Golf take First Place at LT Yaupon Invitational! Congratulations to the Chap golfers who took to the links at Yaupon Golf Course for the LT Yaupon Invitational. WHS Team One came out on top besting Leander's Varsity! Team Two was just three agonizing shots shy of third place. Individually, Guy Lilljenwall earned 2nd place honors with a solid round of 75. The JV golfers have one more tournament this semester on November, 28th at Falconhead. Lady Chaps Take 2nd Place! Congratulations to the Lady Chaps I and our medalists for a hard-fought day and a team 2nd place at Anderson's Joy Riley Invitational in some chilly, challenging conditions! Merritt Bjork played her personal tourney best and received a 3rd bronze medal in individual honors! Congratulations to Coach Patterson and our golfers for braving the elements and representing Westlake with class and enthusiasm. Go Chaps! STUDENT NEWS It's showtime! You are invited to "Spotlight", the dance department's exciting fall show, on Tuesday, November 14th at 7:00 pm in the WHS Performing Arts Center. Come see performances by Hyline, Star Steppers and the Dance 1, 2 and 3/4 classes. No tickets needed...it's free. He gave them a tour of the bus and demonstrated the equipment inside. The CERT students Eve Churchill, Cassandra Shin, Nolan Screen and Manlei Kuang taught CPR skills to the HCMS students at Fitfest. SCHOOL NEWS Community Approves Penny Swap & Drop/TRE! Eanes ISD voters overwhelmingly passed the proposed tax ratification, or Penny Swap & Drop proposition by 89 percent in the November 7 election. The TRE approval lowers the overall Eanes ISD tax rate by more than a penny to $1.20 and adds an estimated $3 million of non-recapturable funds to the district's operating budget.
